About the FdEd Primary Education Studies programme

The FdEd Primary Education Studies programme is one of its kind for the local area and as such will be developed to meet the needs of employers and the local economic climate. With this in mind subject specialists who teach within the local area or those that have substantiated experience will provide some of the teaching, in order for students to understand and apply the academic knowledge and skills taught to everyday practice. This lends itself to ensuring that students on this programme are equipped for employment in this field, but are also aware of future prospects in relation to job potentials. The programme will therefore provide extensive experience in the classroom beyond that normally found on a Foundation Degree.

This programme is an exciting route into many future careers, but will predominantly be aimed at those wanting to become a Primary school teacher. Therefore, the experience gained at Foundation Degree level through this programme will be of great benefit, not only to the students, but also to future employers.

The programme has been designed to allow for students to develop a number of skills, but also to allow for students to experience new and innovative ways in which lessons can be delivered. With this is mind lecture/seminar sessions will be incorporated into the methods of delivery. However, these will often be in the form of flipped learning/blended learning which will allow for students to work towards becoming independent in their learning.

The programme will also embed online learning into each of the modules. This online aspect will form the basis for student formative assessment and will act as a forum for student discussion and tutor feedback. As such this aspect of the course will promote communities of practice and allow both students and tutor to discuss varying aspects of both the course and their experiences.
