Advice and guidance on courses, internal and external progression, student finance, travel, childcare etc. can be delivered from our team of Advisers.
Our friendly and well-qualified team of Careers Advisers are here to give you careers advice and guidance. All of our Careers Advisers are professionally qualified and equipped to give you the help you need to get you on your way to career success.
Alongside our booked appointments students can drop in at any time and be sure that all of our services are confidential and impartial.

Depending on your personal circumstances you may be eligible for financial support funds so we want to make sure you have all the help you need to receive these.

- The 19 + Discretionary Learner Support Fund including 20+ Childcare Bursary
- 24+ Loans Bursary

If you would like an application form please call in to the Learner Services reception desk or click on the links above to be directed to the relevant documentation or web address.
Learners who meet eligibility criteria, with a household income of less than £21,000, may receive help towards travel, childcare, meal allowances and hardship.
There may be help towards course fees for learners who are not fully funded. This bursary fund can’t be used to pay for essential kit and equipment or trips.
Learners who are aged over 24, on a Level 3 or 4 course, who have taken out the Advanced Learning Loan to pay their fees, can apply for the 24+ Loans Bursary Fund which can help towards the cost of learning support, travel, childcare, meal allowances and hardship.
Learners aged over 20 who are eligible for the 19+ DLSF and 24+ Loans Bursary can apply for help with childcare costs whilst they attend college to cover costs incurred above the free nursery hours provided by the Government.
Learners who are on Higher Education courses who are in financial hardship or who are awaiting payments of student loans can apply to the HESF for help with emergency living costs.
The Army offers the Further Education Bursary to young people who want to get qualified before they join the Regular Army. Its aim is support you while you study at the Institute and what’s more you get a guaranteed training place when you finish your studies with us.
The Bursary is worth £1,000 for each year of study (up to four years), and a £1,000 bonus when you complete Phase 1 Training. It is available for Level 2 or 3 technical and professional courses. To apply you have to be aged between 16 and 32 years old.

Additional Learning Support
The Additional Learning Support service is available to learners offering support and help in the classroom or workshop or with exams. Learners who indicate on an application form that they have a support need will be assessed and offered appropriate support.
Support and help is available with the following –
- Practical advice and support for physical disabilities and specified learning difficulties such as ADD, AHD, Asperger’s, dyslexia and other medical or mental health conditions
- Help to access specialist equipment for your course
- Support in the classroom and in the wider Institute environment
- Support for visual or hearing impairment (blind and deaf)
Student Recruitment Officers
The Institute Student Recruitment team organise Open Events for School Leaver and University Centre courses at the Institute, visit schools to give assembly or group talks about what the Institute has to offer and deliver Career Coach sessions to groups of school students.
The team are also responsible for organising Year 11 and 10 evening tasters at the Institute for students to experience what it might be like to study here and to help make their decision about study and careers for the future.

The team also attend parents evenings at schools and can arrange tours for academy or school groups or individuals – email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information or to book a tour.
Full time learners will be allocated a Progression Coach who will be responsible for assisting with academic progress and welfare. The Progression Coach will be on hand to support, guide and advise during time at the Institute.
There will be regular meetings with the Coach so they can help learners achieve their goals. Learners will also be given regular opportunities to discuss progress in one-to-one reviews and access any support they need.
Progression Coaches can also help learners get to university. They are on hand offering support through the entire application process from choosing the right course to submitting a Student Finance application.
